Dangerous Dog Registration & Resources
If you have received a notice in the mail regarding a potentially dangerous or dangerous dog designation, you are required to take action. This page contains all necessary forms to complete your requirements.
Companion Animal Care & Control, as the animal control authority, is responsible for maintaining records related to dangerous and potentially dangerous dogs in accordance with Minnesota Statutes § 347.51.
Please review your notice carefully and select the form that corresponds to your situation. Refer to your notice for your designation type and required next steps. Note that your information will not be saved within the form until it has been fully completed and submitted.
Once submitted, your information will be reviewed and processed by our team. The applicable fee will then be invoiced based on your submission:
Potentially Dangerous Dog Registration: $50
Dangerous Dog Registration: $500
Designation Review Request: $200
Change in Status: No fee
Appeal Hearings: Hearing costs are determined and processed by the hosting city and assigned hearing officer at the time of scheduling
Failure to complete the required renewal and documentation may result in enforcement action as outlined under Minnesota Statutes §§ 347.50–347.565. This may include administrative penalties, issuance of citations, court action, or seizure of the dog for non-compliance with statutory requirements.
